    Keep in mind that even though a Medicare Supplement insurance company cannot reject your enrollment for health reasons, the company is allowed to make you wait up to six months before covering your pre-existing conditions. After this six-month waiting period is over, the plan will cover your pre-existing conditions. This pre-existing condition waiting period may apply even if you enroll in a Medicare Supplement plan during your Medicare Supplement Open Enrollment Period.

Before this date, state and local government employees were exempt from paying Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) payroll taxes that help to pay for Medicare Part A.     While the Medicare website suggests applying for Medicare three months before you turn 65, it’s a good idea to allow yourself a few extra months to become acclimated to the process and gather the documents you need. There are a number of deadlines and conditions with which that you need toshould familiarize yourself with so that you are able to take full advantage of the benefits you deserve.
    Regular residents of the U.S. (citizens, permanent residents, etc.) can get Medicare Part A if they have worked in the U.S. for at least 40 quarters (10 years for most people) and are above the age of 65. This rule was made in 1996 during the Bill Clinton administration, as part of the Welfare Reform Act.
