Version 2017071 supports communications regarding multi-ingredient compounds, thereby allowing compounded medication to be prescribed electronically. Previously prescriptions for compounds were handwritten and sent via fax to the dispenser, which often required follow up communications between the prescriber and pharmacy. The ability to process prescriptions for compounds electronically in lieu of relying on more time intensive interpersonal interactions would be expected to improve efficiency.
